Utes have traditionally been the vehicle of choice for tradesmen, and now they have reached a level of popularity never imagined when Ford built the first Aussie ute in Australia in 1934.
Keeping them in good shape is a tricky business between impacts from tools, machinery, camping and leisure equipment and rubbish, as the ute floor often takes a beating that is quickly noticeable. However, JB Weld says that this is not the case when the floor is treated with Herculiner.
JB Weld says that last year its Herculiner product proved to be the number one truck bed liner brand in North America ahead of five other brands and for good reason, as it prevents rust, is also resistant to gasoline , oils, solvents and other chemicals.
It has high scratch resistance, adhesion, impact resistance, chemical resistance, and slip resistance, and when cured, Herculiner provides a non-slip coating with a tough, durable, textured layer that is reported to not chip, flake, or peel. .
JB Weld says that its proprietary solvent-based formula allows Herculiner to adhere better to surfaces than water-based products, and it can adhere to virtually any surface or material, including wood, metal, concrete, aluminum, asphalt, rubber , fiberglass and plastics, including PVC. .
If damaged, other liners need to be removed or grooved, but because Herculiner adheres to itself, it can be easily repaired with additional applications.
Several methods can be used to apply Herculiner: brush, roller or spray compressor.
Application is an easy process that begins with preparing the surface by cleaning all dirt and grime and masking the areas to be painted.
All paint areas should be scraped to remove shine and surfaces should be wiped clean with a xylene (xylol), acetone or MEK solution using a rag.
Herculiner must be mixed thoroughly before use and during application so that the rubber particles remain in suspension to ensure an even application. A light first coat acts as a primer.
After approximately four hours, Herculiner is dry to the touch and when it no longer feels tacky, apply a second coat. This is allowed to cure for at least 24 hours before light use or three to five days before heavy use.
Herculiner is available in a box liner kit with everything you need to get the job done, including two rollers, a brush, 1 quart of Herculiner and an abrasive pad.
For those who already have abrasive brushes and pads, there are two sizes of Herculiner cans, one is 946ml and will cover around 1.4 square meters with two coats, and the larger is 3.78 liter which will cover around 5.5 square meters.
Herculiner is also available as a spray, which is ideal for touch-ups, cutting before rolling or protecting hard-to-reach areas such as wheel wells.
Herculiner is a JB Weld product available in Australia through HPP Lunds.
