MIAMI BEACH, FL. (WSVN) – Vehicles in Miami Beach were vandalized overnight.
On Friday morning, about a half-dozen cars had flat tires in a public parking lot near 53rd Street and Collins Avenue.
Micheal Zitomer, who picked up his car in the parking lot, started to drive away but noticed he had a flat tire.
When he got back to the parking lot, he noticed that other cars also had flat tires.
“Who runs around doing that?” Zitomer said. “I can almost see maybe, like popping, slashing a person’s tire, but they literally go around like they’re on a mission to slash everybody’s tires. It’s really unbelievable and unacceptable.”
Other drivers did not find out what happened until they went to their cars.
One man, who spoke to 7News in Spanish, said he had just learned of damage to at least one of his tires.
“I’m realizing right now,” said the man.
The man had no idea who could have done this.
“It’s crazy, crazy. I can’t believe this is happening,” said Mauro Rosas.
Rosas is helping his friend by changing his flat tire.
“I hope they catch these people because, you see, I’m here on my break,” Rosas said. “This is not fair.”
Miami Beach detectives are investigating nine cases of car vandalism in the parking lot alone.
Several vehicles have already been towed.
“I came to find out apparently there was some tire damage on the property, which is terrible,” said Alex Borrego, who pulled into the lot, “but luckily my scout is fine.”
While Borrego’s car was undamaged, it was enough to make him wonder if he wants to park here again.
“Maybe not after hearing what happened, you know, apparently there are a lot of cars that have had their tires slashed,” he said. “I don’t think I’ll ever park here again, to be honest.”
And it has left other people wondering why anyone would want to wreck someone’s car.
“It’s just to hurt the people,” Rosas said. “Has no sense”.
Police are investigating the incident and have additional officers patrolling the area.
If you have information about this vandalism, call the Miami Beach Police or Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS. Remember, you can always remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $5,000.
