F1 22 cars and configurations

The new cars in F1 22 are a joy to drive, but they are also extremely challenging.

New regulations have created cars that are heavier and heavier, making them more difficult to drive at low speeds than ever before.

Codemasters have also unlocked aero settings in F1 22. Whereas before they provided a track specific base and then let you play from 1 to 11, now at each track we have the option to go from 1 to 50 with our wings!

This means there will be more tweaking and tweaking with settings than ever before.

My team

While much of my team has remained the same for F1 22, there are also some changes to be aware of.

With new entry point options, different power unit performances, and some clever tricks every player should know, our My Team guide is a must read before you start your journey to the top of Formula 1!

virtual reality

For the first time ever, the Formula 1 game will have native VR support.

This is limited to PCs and a handful of headsets like the Occulus Quest 2 and HTC Vive.

The good folks at Vive provided us with an HTC Vive Pro 2 to test out VR racing and we were impressed.

While he pushed the 3070Ti to the limit in the menus, the racing was smooth and downright exciting. Flying through Raidillon and through the streets of Monaco in virtual reality is like nothing else.

There are no plans for PSVR support, at least with F1 22.

As always, there are plenty of assists for players to use that help to make these 1,000bhp beasts more manageable.

The main ones are automatic transmissions, traction control and anti-lock brakes (ABS).

These assists are helpful for newer and younger drivers, but ultimately prevent you from reaching your top pace.

If you can learn to race without traction control and manual shifting, you’ll be much faster. As long as you can keep it pointed in the right direction!

The best wheels for F1 22

While F1 22 is a controller-friendly racing game, you get a much better experience with a steering wheel and pedals.

There are an overwhelming number of options, but we’ve looked at them to find the best one for you on any budget.
