Parking: Leicestershire driver fined £50 for eating at McDonald’s

An anonymous McDonald’s customer has spoken of his frustration after being given a £50 parking fine simply for eating his food. The driver stopped at the restaurant in Coalville in Leicestershire, said he had a full meal and “additional drinks” before realizing the fine.

In a post on a local forum, Spotted Whitwick, the disgruntled customer said: “So upset I got a ticket for parking at McDonald’s for almost two hours, we were there the whole time eating and [got] Extra drinks, now I got a fine

He then asked, “Did anyone else have this?”

Most McDonald’s franchises have a parking time restriction, which is generally 90 minutes to two hours.

An exception to this rule is if the restaurant is located in a larger commercial complex or estate, which may be operated by a private company.

Another said: “Go in and talk to McDonald’s, they might be able to cancel it if you can prove you were there the whole time. It’s worth a try,” leicestershire live informed.

A third commenter said he was a former employee and advised him to call and ask to speak to a manager.

They stated that a manager can cancel a fine at his discretion.

Not everyone sympathized with the driver, as many in the comments laughed at the ticketed motorist.

A McDonald’s spokesperson told Express.co.uk: “We have parking restrictions at a number of our restaurants, with a time limit to ensure there is adequate parking for all our customers.

“In this restaurant the time limit is 90 minutes and we make this clear to our customers with signs in the parking lot.

“If a customer feels they have been ticketed in error, we encourage them to contact the third-party contractor who issued the ticket as an appeal.”
