Mom of 3 shares her best tips for traveling with young children

I am a mother of three children under 5 years old.

Before having children, I traveled a lot, both for work and for fun. It is known that I landed in New York after a trip, came home, changed bags and returned to the airport, all the same day.

In my many hours of travel, I’ve honed a few skills that have made things easier, like packing two weeks’ worth of clothes in a small carry-on and having everything I need to sleep on a 12-hour overnight flight.

But when I became a mom I was worried that the kids would keep me from traveling as much as I was used to.

We took our first trip with our son when he was 3 months old and it was a disaster. We had the wrong gear with us, including a huge, heavy stroller that was a hassle to check on the plane. We didn’t even use it at our destination. We also didn’t have a change of clothes to all the world on the plane with us, because accidents happen.

Now that my children are 4, 2 and 2 years old, my family has perfected our trips. Here are some of my tried and true tips for traveling with young children.
