Local break-ins prompt police to remind residents to lock up vehicles

Local police are warning residents to lock their vehicles after “numerous” reports of break-ins from parked cars in recent days.

According to a press release from Collingwood and The Blue Mountains OPP, there have been 15 incidents in the last three days of unlocked vehicle thefts in various areas of Collingwood.

Cash, loose change, wallets, sleeping bags, a GPS unit, keys and vehicle registration documents were stolen during overnight incidents.

“Just be aware that the person(s) committing this type of theft is looking for an easy target, also known as an unlocked vehicle,” the OPP press release states. “To avoid this type of occurrence, please remove any valuables from the vehicle or place it in an area that is not easily visible from the outside and, of course, lock your vehicle.”

Investigations into the recent break-ins are ongoing, and police ask anyone with information about the incidents to call Collingwood OPP at 705-445-4321 or submit an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222- TIPS (8477). You can leave a tip online at ontariocrimestoppers.ca.
