Is there a unique tip for cars with automatic headlights?

For at least several years, online advertisements have claimed that there is an unusual or unique tip or trick for cars with automatic headlights. One ad read: “One time trick if your car has automatic headlights.”

According to a rumor, there is an unusual or unique tip or trick for auto headlights or DRL daytime running lights that allows for a special auto insurance safety discount.

We also found a cheep where a user mocked the strange ads. It read: “Only advice if your car has automatic headlights. Seniors are ditching their car insurance and doing this instead.”

However, this was all quite misleading.

Ads promising a unique or unusual tip or trick for auto headlights led to a Article on Comparisons.org that listed the name of the state associated with the reader’s IP address. For example, one said, “California drivers with automatic headlights hit the jackpot.” He began: “California drivers: If you’re currently insured, drive less than 50 miles a day, and live in a qualified ZIP code, you can get an extremely high discount. Also, if you have some safety features like automatic headlights, you can get even more discounts.”

The bottom of the page seemed to reveal that Comparisons.org was not based in the US It said: “©2022 Comparisons.org. All rights reserved. Azrieli Center, 26 Harokmim St., Holon, Israel”.

We clicked on the ads. On the next page, it seemed to state that six insurers would give a discount based on having automatic headlights: Sure, nationwide, Allstate, farmers insurance, 21st century insuranceY Progressive.

However, Allstate and Esurance, now an Allstate company, do not offer such discounts. William Miller, Allstate’s business media and public relations spokesman, told us, “While we don’t offer discounts for automatic headlights or daytime running lights, you can find many of the auto discounts we offer on our website. website.” Meanwhile, the websites of nationwide, 21st century insuranceY Progressive He also mentioned that there are no such discounts.

A Farmers Insurance spokesperson responded via email: “Regarding your question about whether there is a discount on car insurance if drivers have a car with automatic headlights or daytime running lights (DRLs)… exists in Farmers”. After receiving this email, we searched the Farmers Insurance website and noticed that at least some states it offered something for daytime running lights (DRL), but not for automatic headlights.

In short, again, the ads were misleading. Readers who followed all the steps on the resulting website did not find an unusual or unique tip or trick for cars with automatic headlights, nor did the auto insurance companies listed on the website offer any discounts for the feature.

We previously reported on the idea that cars with automatic headlights or daytime running lights could offer car insurance discounts. We found that while a few select insurance companies seemed to offer something, some benefits were limited to specific states. Most auto insurance companies didn’t seem to offer any such discounts for auto headlights.
