Earlier this month, the Dayton Police Department reported receiving 136 reports of theft of motor vehicle parts and accessories this year, which is a 38% increase from last year. This year alone, more than 430 vehicles have been stolen. Some of these cases involved keys left in cars, sometimes in contact with the moving car, according to police.
While the numbers are up last year, there are ways to stay safe, according to Louis Savaglio, technical training specialist for TBC Corporation, a manufacturer of auto tires.
