Fuel Saving Tips: Drivers Urged to Use Basic Car Features to Increase Fuel Economy

According to the latest data, the average price of a liter of gasoline stands at 187.19 pence per litre, while the price of diesel has fallen to 195.88 pence. With these high prices, many motorists are making use of fuel saving techniques, as a simple button could help drivers improve their fuel economy.

The RAC states that the primary function of cruise control is to make driving more comfortable.

But by smoothing out acceleration and deceleration, you can also save fuel.

Even when driving on a straight highway, maintaining a constant speed can be a challenge.

Weather, road surface, and traffic conditions can all alter how fast someone drives.

By using cruise control and traveling a few miles below the speed limit, the vehicle will maximize fuel efficiency.

He said: “If you go a little slower and use cruise control, the engine computer will automatically calculate the best fuel economy it can get for those highway speeds and adjust the engine accordingly.

“The less speed and acceleration you use, the better it is for your savings.

“Ballpark, you can probably expect a one to five percent increase [in mileage] using cruise control, but every little bit helps.”

He acknowledges that the savings aren’t overwhelmingly large, but over the course of a long way, they can add up.
