Fuel economy: the best fuel-efficient family cars on the market: Ford, Peugeot, Skoda and VW

Drivers have been looking for ways to lower their fuel bills this year, with record gasoline and diesel prices decimating budgets at a time when other household bills are already at an all-time high. Drivers can calculate MPG themselves by filling the tank with fuel and then resetting the trip odometer, then driving normally until the tank is half empty.

At this point, they should take another reading, which should tell drivers how many miles they’ve traveled since they last recharged. With those figures, they will have to divide them by the total gallons or liters they need to fill the fuel tank.

Aidan Rushby, CEO of Carmoola, said having a fuel-efficient car was crucial to ensuring everyone had the convenience and comfort of traveling from one place to another.

Speaking to Express.co.uk, he said: “When buying a car it’s important to know its MPG or miles per gallon. Knowing the MPG of a car will give you an idea of how fuel efficient it is, how much you might need to spend on gasoline or diesel, and whether you should opt for an electric or hybrid car.

“MPG can also help you compare different family cars so you can estimate and budget for fuel costs. This is easier if you also know your average mileage. With a little calculation, you will be able to figure out which family car is the most practical for your driving needs.”
