EPD offers safety tips and advice for the 4th of July

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) – As the holiday approaches, the Evansville Police Department (EPD) wants to remind the public of the City of Evansville’s Independence Day celebration in the downtown Dress Plaza area.

They suggest a few tips to make sure everyone has a safe and fun 4th of July.

  • Children under the age of 18 must be supervised by a parent.
o EPD says, “due to the large number of expected visitors, we ask parents of young children to take a photo of their child with their phone before arriving at the event in case the child becomes lost or does not return home . The recent image can be sent to the police for identification purposes.
  • Fireworks of any kind are not permitted.
  • Skateboards, bicycles or scooters are not allowed.
  • Drones or RC aircraft are not allowed.
  • See something, say something! Call 911 to report suspicious items or activities.

At the end of the fireworks show, residents should expect traffic delays when exiting the city center.

EPD will have officers show cars the proper exit routes to move traffic away from the city center and avoid gridlock. Downtown intersections will reopen after most vehicle traffic has left the area.
