Drivers across the UK have been warned not to drive at night for the next few months. As the nights grow longer and darker, experts advise drivers to follow several vital tips to stay safe in the run-up to Christmas and beyond.
Mike Thompson, COO of leasing optionsstressed: “Driving in the dark can be sensory overload after a summer of light nights.
“If you don’t feel safe driving in the dark, consider taking a practice drive on a Sunday night when the roads are calmer.
“The safest way to approach driving at night is to make sure you have a clear view in front of you, try not to stare into the headlights of oncoming vehicles, and make sure you don’t distract other drivers.”
With that in mind, the experts at Leasing Options have provided their top tips for restless drivers to prepare for their dark-night rides this winter.

However, if motorists pass a vehicle in front of them, they can turn their high beams back on to better illuminate the road, as long as there is no oncoming traffic or other vehicles ahead.
Legally, drivers can use sidelights if they’re driving under 30 mph in a well-lit area, but most drivers use low beams anyway to increase visibility on the road.
If drivers are hit with dazzling lights, they should slow down or, if necessary, stop.
Motorists are also encouraged to avoid looking directly into headlights and look slightly to the left of the road, following the white line.
