Charlotte Police Report Rising Number of Car Thefts

CHARLOTTE, NC — Nearly 200 cars have been stolen in Charlotte in the past two weeks, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police.

CMPD tweeted a video Monday with some tips designed to help reduce the number of vehicle thefts:

  1. Close your doors.
  2. Keep possession of your keys and know where your fobs are at all times. Don’t leave them in your car.
  3. If you have a firearm, don’t leave it in your car. If you must leave it in your car, secure it in a gun box in the trunk.

Police are also urging people not to leave their car unattended while on the run.
